Hands-on with nature-based solutions

On this page we give the floor to stakeholders of the Nature-based Solutions for Climate Resilient and Circular Food Systems project. Narratives describe potentials, preconditions and specific examples for the implementation and scaling of different types of nature-based and circular solutions. They address climate change related challenges of a food system. In the near future, project partners, stakeholders of case studies and other interested followers will be invited to create vlogs and blogs as well.

  08 December 2021 - Blog post - Ms. Veda Manohar and her husband run an organic farm in the Chikkamaglore district, at the border of Bhadravthi and Tarikere Taluk in India. They worked hard to live their dream and to bring nature-based solutions into practice.

  Participatory modelling without stakeholders

  04 November 2021 - Blog post - Researcher Confidence Duku works on food security in relation to climate change in the Bono East Region. Due to Corona, his computer screen in the Netherlands is the closest he can get to Ghana. Nevertheless, the research team managed to struggle through rather well. And there is more to come.

  The Velhorst estate: prince charming of agricultural practices

  07 April 2021 - Blog post - What is more nature-based: one monoculture or a biodiverse patchwork of crops? Farmers Arjen and Winny van Buuren know the answer. On the Velhorst estate in Lochem they apply intercropping. This way, they combat vulnerability to climate change, loss of biodiversity and a monotonous landscape. Wageningen University & Research collects data to underpin the effectiveness of this initiative. For this blog, we interviewed Arjen van Buuren about this hands-on example of nature-based solutions for climate resilient and circular food systems.

  Pioneering farmer Roy Michielsen about nature-based solutions

  07 December 2020 - Blog post - How to make friends with enemies of our enemies? That central question led to a nature-based solution for farmer Roy Michielsen of ERF BV. Since 2015, ERF BV has been applying basic principles of nature to farming by strip cropping. Now, five years later, he is convinced that this is the nature-based solution that he was looking for.
